Role of river into local people's lives

Youth, Agent of Change

Along the banks of the Abrantes River near Surabaya, Eastern Java, Indonesia, Several mini ferries serve as the sole means of crossing between the two sides of the river. Operated manually by the local residents, these ferries glide across the water without the aid of motors, driven solely by the strength and skill of its operators. The cost of a one-way journey is a modest 2,000 Indonesian Rupiah, equivalent to approximately 0.13 USD. This traditional mode of transportation runs throughout the day, connecting communities and providing an essential link in the daily lives of those who live along the river.
